Fundraising for SickKids
From September to November 2023, OTLF campaigned to raise funds for SickKids Foundation and The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. In an impressive showing of community spirit, twelve dedicated teams -- each led by an OTLF participant -- and a total of sixty volunteers joined together to support the occasion, partaking in fundraising activities ranging from canvassing door-to-door in different neighbourhoods to making professional sponsorship pitches to real companies and individuals. The organization raised a total of $17,200, of which SickKids and Princess Margaret each received $8,600. Together, we embarked on a journey of compassion, engaging with our communities and spreading awareness about the missions of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and SickKids Foundation.
We extend our gratitude to those who opened their doors, contributing to our cause, and we raise a sincere thanks to our sponsors, as their support has been instrumental in making this initiative possible. We thank everyone for their commitment to our community. Our funds will support the SickKids Precision Child Health campaign, a campaign that will help diagnose faster, treat smarter, and predict better. Every dollar put towards The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation will support early detection and help save more lives.
"What I found most rewarding was the feedback I received after each sponsorship pitch I conducted; my audiences were all accomplished and experienced businesspeople who had valuable insight into how I -- a high school student taking this initiative -- could improve my “pitch” ability. For example, I learned the importance of conducting sufficient research on my audience, so I could shape my pitch to directly target and appeal to them. I also learned the value of adding a personal experience to the pitch, as it helps the audience relate with your mission. Finally, I learned the subtle yet helpful technique of breaking the ice and making small talk with the audience before a pitch."
