Kenny Lam, Mentor

Kenny is CEO of Two Sigma Asia-Pacific, overseeing the Asia-Pacific region for Two Sigma. Two Sigma is one of the world’s largest hedge funds and systematic investment firms with an AUM of about USD 65 billion. It is known as a global leader in quantitative investment management, applying advanced data science and technologies to the investment process.
 

During Kenny’s tenure, Two Sigma has built a large onshore presence in China, becoming one of the top five global hedge fund managers in the country, and has expanded substantially in Japan and Australia.

 

Prior to joining Two Sigma, Kenny was Group President of Noah Holdings Limited (NYSE: Noah). Noah is China’s largest independent wealth manager and a leading asset manager, having advised on more than USD 90 billion for institutions and high networth families. During Kenny’s five-year tenure, Noah’s revenue, AUM and profit grew by over 2-fold and was the first and only wealth manager from China to be named “The Best Domestic Wealth Manager” by Asia Private Banker Magazine and Asiamoney between 2016-2019.
 

Before Noah, Kenny was Global Partner of McKinsey & Company and Co-Leader of its Asia Financial Institutions Practice, serving leading financial institutions in 13 markets in Asia. He was one of the fastest rising partners of McKinsey when elected a Global Partner six years after he joined McKinsey as an analyst. He has advised governments and regulators on transformation of financial hubs, including the creation of the Private Wealth Management Association in Hong Kong.
 

Kenny has been appointed to various public roles serving the broader business community. He is Chairman of the Executive Board of the Wharton School in Asia (tenure officially starting July 1); and Co-Chairman of the Asia Pacific Leadership Council of The Nature Conservancy. He is a member of the University of Waterloo President’s Global Advisory Board and was appointed as a Special Advisor to Our Hong Kong Foundation, a leading Hong Kong think-tank.
 

Kenny is also an elected board member of multiple leading companies in Asia. He is a board member and the chairman of the Risk Committee of The Bank of East Asia (China), one of the largest foreign banks in China; a board member of Shui On Xintiandi, a leading property developer in China; and a board member of Smartone Telecommunications in Hong Kong (HKSE: 315), a leading telecommunications provider.
 

Kenny graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, magna cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Joseph Wharton Scholar and Benjamin Franklin Scholar; and Bachelor’s and Master’s in Law degrees with honours from Oxford University. He was the first Hong Kong Chinese ever to be awarded the Joseph Wharton Scholarship from the Wharton School. He is a best-selling author in China, with his recent book “Choices” published by Citic Publishing, one of China’s largest publishers, and reached No. 4 in e-book sales in China in March 2023.
